Vitruvius Scoticus - Circa 1780

160 plans, principally by William Adam, collected, engraved and sold as a bound set. The illustrations typically comprise an elevation and a plan of the structures, which are large public or private buildings such as country houses.

Dundee's Town House was erected in 1731. There was a ground-level piazza, known as the "Pillars", and the principal floor of its seven bay frontage was lined by tall baroque windows, each one capped by an oculus. Its central three bays were framed by pairs of pilasters supporting a pediment with twin oculi above, capped by a steeple (after McKean and Walker).
